New in Business Central 2025 Wave 1: Reopen Finished Production Orders

Managing production in Dynamics 365 Business Central just got more flexible! With the 2025 Release Wave 1, Microsoft introduces a long-awaited enhancement: the ability to reopen finished production orders.

Previously, once a production order was marked as Finished, it was locked — no changes could be made. If you needed to post additional output or correct entries, you had to jump through workarounds or create new orders.

Now, with this update, you can:

  • Reopen a finished production order

  • Post additional output or consumption

  • Finish the order again when you're done

This feature supports real-world manufacturing needs where:

  • Last-minute production output is reported late

  • You need to correct missed consumption

  • Teams work across shifts and may post entries at different times

⚙️ How It Works

  1. Go to a Finished production order

  2. Choose Reopen from the action bar

  3. Make necessary changes (e.g., post extra output or consumption)

  4. Mark it as Finished again

Business Central will automatically track all changes, keeping your production ledger clean and auditable.
