Guest user limitation in Business Central
Guest user limitation in Business Central
Guest users in Microsoft Dynamics 365
Business Central face certain limitations due to their external domain status.
One significant challenge arises with email functionality. For instance, when
utilizing the new Mail capability extension and selecting the "Current
user" option, guest users encounter issues because their email address
format does not align with the standard internal domain format; it typically
appears as `guestuser_guestdomain.com#EXT#@mydomain.com`.
Attempts to send emails, such as quotes or
invoices, result in an error stating "Resource could not be
discovered." This limitation can pose problems, especially for users
responsible for bulk emailing tasks like monthly invoice distribution.
Workarounds, such as using an email client
for sending individual documents or configuring SMTP with PowerShell to enable
sending through a tenant's SMTP server, can provide partial solutions. However,
these methods may lack efficiency and do not equate to the seamless experience
enjoyed by internal users. This limitation underscores the need for
organizations to carefully consider the scope of access and capabilities
assigned to guest users in Business Central.
